Manual Transmission. Accidentally shifted into 2nd instead of 4rth. Seems to be okay, should I worry?

Last night I was sick and tired and driving home from work. I should have probably called off from work but I went. I guess when I was accelerating on the expressway I was about 1500 rpm from red line on my corolla and instead of hitting fourth I popped it into 2nd. The needle went all the way to max rpm and I went flying forward, it was only about a second if that before I smashed the clutch back in. I imagine it was cranking over 8 thousand revs for that short time and I never hit the gas. It seems to be running just fine, but should I take it to the shop to have it checked out? I was freaking out, it's my first manual and the first and only time I've ever done that!

If you don't notice anything different, its probably fine. And its a Toyota, they can take abuse. I've done the same thing before, didn't hurt anything

There's no point in taking it in for a checkup. If you hurt something you'll know soon enough. But it's rather hard to even get it into second gear at what must have been around 65 MPH. But if you haven't hurt anything then there's nothing to worry about.

You must have really good synchro's on that transmission if it was even able to get into second at that speed.

Things you would have noticed right a way would be a cracked or broken flywheel, or the clutch would have come apart. If you're not experiencing any vibrations then likely you are not looking at any serious problems.

    Hope this helps.

I have a Corolla XRS. I've taken 2nd gear over 50mph multiple times when I was trying to reach lift. I don't think you did any damage to it, although you should definitely pay more attention because doing it often may have effects. You would notice something right away if something happened.

you probably did nothing major wrong or it would have let you know right then and there ! just keep driving it and keep paying attention to it ! if it continues to drive okay then you should be fine !

If it was going to die, or bust it would have done it. You're fine.
