Why did this symbol randomly appear on my Word Document?

Hello, bit of a random question out of curiosity. But here we go, when I was typing on a Word Document I'd wrote a fair bit then decided to look back on what I'd already wrote, when I did so I noticed that where I'd typed a normal key to spell out the word 'to' the 't' in the word was a '†' symbol instead. Why is this? I don't have that symbol on my keyboard and all I did was press the 't' key. I even tried to rewrite the word and this time it was normal, so it just appeared randomly that one time. Why?
