Can I fly throughout Canada without parental consent letter?

I'm 14 years old and want to fly from one Canadian city to another but I don't have a parental consent letter. I also just paid in cash and bought a boarding pass right at the airport. I thought it said with proper identification children over 12 don't need anything else other than a valid passport and ID which I have. I read something about needing a parental consent letter and now I'm worried about being able to fly. Do I need a parental consent letter?

You bought a ticket for cash at the airport and now want to know if you can get on the Airplane.

Next time ask at the counter and talk to a human they will tell you the process for chilren flying Canada. YES you need your parents permission to fly. No they do not have to come with you.

Call this number now you have other problems 1-800-668-6868

If you are flying on a domestic flight (not leaving Canada), you will not be asked for any parental consent forms from the Canadian government. Usually, those are required for crossing the border because border agents are looking for runaways or potential victims of internet luring.

However, because you are a minor and (I assume) travelling alone, you do fall into a category that may make the airlines a little fussy about letting you on the plane. Each airline is different but they all generally have something called the "Unaccompanied Minors" program. Westjet has that...so does Air Canada.

What you need to do is see what the airline policy is about if you are under a certain age and flying alone. If you are 14 years old, I think you fall in the OPTIONAL program for Westjet and Air Canada, meaning that you or your parents can use the program but do not have to.

So I think you should be able to travel alone, but you may have a few people (flight attendants, gate staff, airport security) that may question you about why you are travelling alone and whether your parents know where you are going. Be prepared to answer a few questions about that.

Not for a domestic flight. You do for international. The fact that your ticket is cash paid might get you flagged at PIL. (Primary Inspection) then you might get sent to Secondary for more examination.

Bottom line: Unless someone gets picky or you stand out somehow (acting stupid in public, look really young for your age or something) you'll be fine.

    Have a nice flight :)
