What causes two beeps on my Dell Inspiron 8200 laptop?

When the power button is pushed, my 8200 looks as if it is booting up, then two beeps and it stops booting, and shuts down. What do the two beeps mean? Memory? Boot disk, Keyboard?

Update:

The LCD screen does not light up to see the boot sequence. The laptop stops attempting to boot after the beeps stop. One suggestion was the backup battery, which I have not changed, yet. Memory (Ram) hard drive, and CD were traded from another laptop with the same results, afterward. The LCD screen was not changed in my attemts to fix it. MMMmmm the backlight? I must try another LCD screen.

No matter how hard i tried to find the beep codes for this model, i did not come up with anything.. All i found is this page

    http://www.bioscentral.com/postcodes/dellbios.htm

and another yahoo answers page with a similar problem as yours

Nevertheless, my personal experience tells me that its the ram. You can try removing the ram stick and see if the beep code changes. If it stays the same, then its definitely the ram.

Go into BIOS Setup and make sure it is correct. Most beep codes are a series of short and long beeps. Two beeps is not in the list for beep codes and normally associates with the BIOS not being correct. You have to watch the black boot screen to set what you need to push in order to get into BIOS. The screen is fast so you may need to reboot until you get what those keys are. It should be F2 tapping it a couple of times while booting up.

It may need the on board battery replaced with a new battery.

it seems that your laptop has some issues while booting.... it must be your hard disk.... first you have to do this boot from F12 on startup and check if you are able to boot...if you can boot then backup all your data immediatly and then replace the hard disk.....

after replacing the hard disk if you still get the same error then you have to follow these steps/

    1. goto boot sequence in BIOS setup and disable all boot devices except HDD and Internal CD rom. and make sure HDD is on number 1...

if it doesn't work for you then please let me know..
