Well You are right. Actions do speak louder that words. You can often learn more from what someone never says than from what he says. YOu can often learn more from what one doesn't do that from what he does. Every thing Obama says has a target. It also has a targeted result.

We can thank the Democrats for all of our entitlement programs because they care. Yeah right. Social Security was enacted with FDR who "accepted so to speak" (his words) a second Bill of Rights. See, nobody passed a second Bill of Rights. People keep voting for these do gooders who have no real solution to what is wrong and that does not cost us money in the end. They have robbed the Social Security Fund and refused to address the problem of more people collecting than are paying in. Before addressing that they passed Medicare which is now in the same condition as Social Security. Before addressing that they passed the Affordable Care Act which basically says they can do what ever they want in about 2700 or so pages.

They keep telling us how beneficial they are to everyone and how nasty Republicans are. It is the same scenario as the parents telling the kids they can't have ice cream because we need bread and milk. They hand out the ice cream. They impersonate Santa Clause.

There is a differences in private companies providing coverage and the government mandating it with no fiscal responsibility. No fiscal management. You can not call a $16,000,000,000,000.00 debt financial management. That is called mismanagement. You can't call borrowing $6,000,000,000,000.00 in one presidential term anything but insanity. This was done without passing budgets and without addressing spending problems. If you don't have maintenance the house falls down. Private concerns may look ugly but the don't kick the can down the road for 75 years when everybody owes $50,000.00 a head. People who have children and children who can not vote should not be thanking the Democratic Party.

Most Americans are not, and never have been liberals. Only 17 to 20% (depending on who asked and when) of the American public are self described liberals, and for us (I'm one of them) Obama is ... Meh. and even Meh Minus for precisely the reasons you have stated.

Or is it perhaps that the neo-con movement, of which Paul Ryan is prominent member, and for which Romney became an apologist during the campaign is NOT conservative, and does NOT represent small government and power to the people?

If a true conservative ever makes it to the top of the GOP ticket they might have a thing. Right now, they have fear and suppression. Those don't fly as a political platform in the USA anymore. Neither does Jesus™.
