Which is a good dog whistle?

I live in an apartment and my neighbors dog is driving me to the point that I want to strangle the tiny little rat dog. He does not stop barking (im guessing when the owner leaves). Like 4 people live in the house and its like no one seems to notice or care that a dog is barking inside their home for hours non stop. I have a pitbull, and barely barks unless someone knocks on the door. Some people are pathetic when it comes to obedience in a dog. I would tell my neighbor to shut the dog up but the neighbors are the family members of the landlord. The last thing I need is to get kicked out. I figure maybe ill blow the whistle everytime it barks and maybe itll learn to shut its trap.

Update:

i need a good quality one, not a china made product (no offense)

Dog whistles don't work automatically; a dog must be *trained* to respond to the whistle. While the whistle might initially have a kind of startling effect, you have no way to reward the pause in the barking, and the startle effect would soon wear off. Also, anything like that would have to be done *every time* the dog barked. I'm assuming that you do go out sometimes.

Some breeds, especially small ones, tend to bark much more than larger dogs.

You need to politely alert your neighbors to the fact that their dog is barking nonstop all day long. They may not be aware of what goes on when they go out.

A device such as a Barker Breaker (the wall mounted kind) *might* work but the neighbors would have to buy and use it, not you. It could also bother your dog, somewhat, as it makes a loud sound. Some people have good results with citronella spray collars, which work better and more humanely than electric shock collars, but many people now say the results achieved from EITHER collar are only temporary.

One thing to do would be to have your neighbors go to Karen Pryor's website and get the FREE instructions on how to teach a dog to stop barking on command. This will only work if someone is both willing and dedicated enough to learn the technique and at home all day with the dog, to tell it to stop.

Other options might be day boarding, hiring a pet-sitter, rehoming the barker, or moving yourself.

The breed matters because some dogs have to be trained differently due to certain natural instincts.

This is how I trained my dogs, hope it helps:

Throw the toy, give the command "fetch" or whatever you use and have the dog bring the toy back. Don't let her know you have the treat. (If she knows, just hold it behind your back.)

Grab the toy still in her mouth and say "thank you". She should release, if not hold the treat in front of her nose. When she lets go, quickly praise her and give her the treat. Pet her alot too. Do this over and over. Then after a week or two, give her a treat one time, but not the next, giving her praise both times. If she does not bring you the toy, ignore her. When she does bring it to you, do as above.

When she plays tug of war, do the same, tell her "thank you" and put a treat under her nose and when she lets go, praise her and give treat. Give the toy back, sometimes they don't want to bring you the toy because they think you wont give it back (hence the "throwing it" part of fetch).

If she runs away with it, let her go. To her it's a game, "watch me make them chase me" is what she's thinking. If you don't show interest in it when she runs, she'll stop, but this will take time too.

Enrolling in training classes can help too. Just be consistant.

I play tug of war with my two Great Danes and there is never a problem. When I want them to let go I say "thank you" and they drop it immediately. Sometimes they win, sometimes I win when I say thank you. Its all about training and dominance. They know I am Alpha in the house, there is no question about it and I am consistant with training.

You could call animal control. It's a nuisance. They wouldn't know who called. Animal control would tell them to keep their dog quiet, not take the dog. Good luck! I hate barking neighbor dogs! I always keep my dogs quiet as to not bother the neighbors.
