Why is my car making a loud noise and shaking when drive fast on the highway or when braking?
I drive an automatic 2007 Nissan Altima, and recently I've noticed it more and more that the car shakes when I drive 50-70 mph sometimes, but always shakes along with the wheel when I brake to slow down.
When I drive, I hear this fan-line loud noise that feels as though the wheel is grinding against the brake rotors and it sounds like it's coming from the front of the car.
I'm thinking the two are the same problem. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

You have 2 possibly distinct and separate issues. All can be fixed at general repair shops like Pep Boys or Meineke, or tire shops like Goodyear or Firestone.
1) If you notice shaking at highway speeds, this is almost certainly due to unbalanced tires. Take them for a tire balance. Balance all 4. Typical cost for all 4 would be $40-$60.
2) If you notice shaking under braking, this is almost always due to warped rotors in the front of the car. In some cases the rotors can be machined (turned) to even their surface, in some cases, you will need new. Typical cost of turning 2 rotors would be about $100. Typical cost of 2 new front rotors for an 2007 Altima should be about $250.
3) During casual driving, if you hear a noise as if the wheel is grinding against the brake rotors, this would be the typical sound of wheel bearings going bad. Unfortunately, this is the most serious and most expensive of the issues. Worn wheel bearings should be changed immediately. It could cost about $300+ on your car.

You need to change your rotors. These are what your brake pads push on to brake. After long wear and use they warp (become uneven). This is why you notice when you are driving and it is definitely more noticeable when braking. This is a pretty simple thing to do but if you don't know much about cars I suggest you just take it in. It wont hurt to leave it alone for a while but if shaking gets bad then take it in as soon as you can.

Im thinking your wheel bearings are shot and if this is a front wheel drive car its even worse and will get more expensive if you drive it until the wheels come off take it to the tire and brake shop asap so you dont get killed on the freeway when you lose control of your car it has a really bad problem and you need to get it fixed asap

I had a similar problem a few years ago. My car would shake when braking at any speed above about 55mph. It was the brakes for me. My wheel would shake noticeably too.
They told me that it wasn't a huge deal yet, but it can definitely get to be a big deal if you don't deal with it soon. I would get that fixed ASAP. As far as the noise goes, I didn't have that, but maybe your pads are reaaallllly worn down and they are grinding, which is absolutely horrible for your tire and dangerous to boot.

I would bet it's the wheel bearings. The the speed of the car correlates with the intensity of the sound. PS: If it's quiet when its 20mph or below then wheel bearings.

maybe your brakes are broken. this can happen if you brake to hard or for a too long period of time or if the brakes are defect

ooohh it is the rotor. It is warped an needs a new one or the wheel and/or rotor is bent. I wonder if you hit something on the road while driving.

I think it's in your brake system/rotors/bearings. Monro & Mavis give free estimates

If it happens in cruise it is NOT the rotors. rotos vibrate only while braking. If it happens in cruise it is a bent spindel/wheelbaring hub assembly.

have the brake pads and the rotors checked out they are bad and causing this .,,,,,,,
