  • Why wont my 19 month old son play by himself in his playroom when he is home alone with mom?

When its just his dad at home he plays by himself quite a bit. When its mom and dad home he plays by himself some but less often.

When his dad is at work however, he will not play alone at all he follows his mom around room to room all day.

Why is this and how do we teach him to play alone at least a little bit so momma can get come chores done etc.

How can I fix this? It happens like once a month if that. How should I react upon coming home?

  • Summer/Winter use of CFLS?

I'm wondering if any formal testing has ever been done on this.

Assuming a closed environment... (Your house isn't rally closed but it doesn't really have much effect here)

Using a CFL versus an incandescent light bulb generates roughly the same amount of lumens but uses 70% less energy. This energy savings is primarily because the CFL generates much less heat than a incandescent bulb "normally considered wasted energy". However, it would seem to me that in the winter time, when the house is closed the heater is under the control of thermostatat, that any heat produced by lighting (or any other sources) would effect the ambient temperature and have a diminishing effect on the heaters run time. The only variable is the efficenacy of the heater vs the efficieny of the bulb. Conversely incandescent lights run in the summer when the air is on whould have the opposite effect because the air conditioning has to extract that excess heat created by the bulb.

Just doing the math in my head whithout any lab testing, I would estimate that the use of a CFL in place of a incandescent light whish diminishes electricity useage of the bulb itself by 70% is actually saving you something close to 70% when no climate control is being utilized. 0-10% when in a heated climate, and somewhere near 250% when it is in an air-conditioned climate. Are there any tests out there that show how close my numbers are?

  • Why would my dog attack my other dog for no reason?

I have 2 muts, one is a fox-hound mix (69 lbs) who is 9 years old whom I have had for 7 years. The second dog is a terrier mix (39lbs) that is 18 months old whom I have had for 16 months. For those 16 moths the 2 dogs have ben together 95% of the time and nomally play nice. We were playing with the ball last night and the terrier, stopped. stared at the foxhoud (jack) for about 3-4 seoncds gave 2 little yelps then charged across the room and attacked him. (I was holding the ball) I pulled her off before major harm was done, (just a scratch above his eye) and in 5 minutes they were back to normal. Any ideas what that was about?

  • What type of inflatable raft is good for fishing and whitewater rafting?

I live in northwest oregon and amd looking for a inflatable raft (10-14ft) that will work well for fishing in local rivers and lakes and for whitewater rafting in the local class 3/4 rapids (deschutes/ clackomas etc.) it should be manageable with 2 people but accommodate at least 4 maybe 6. I would like some thing that fits in the back of my Nissan Xterra. deflated, I don't have space for a trailer. The cargo area is about 3.5 X 3.5 feet.
