Neosporin is not meant to be used on puncture wounds, which is what a piercing is.

Pus has the consistency of Elmer's glue or honey. If what you're getting out is thinner than that, it is just normal secretion.

    signs of infection:

green, brown, grey or some other color of secretion (clear, white and yellowed are normal)

hot feeling to the touch accompanied by streaked redness

    foul odor

foul taste in your mouth (since we're talking about an oral piercing)

The best thing to do is sea salt soaks 2-3 times a day. You can easily find non iodized sea salt at the grocery store. If you use any mouthwash, make sure it is alcohol free.

Go back to the piercer and have them take a look at the bump on your piercing. It is likely some sort of hypergranulation and they will be able to tell you the best course of action after looking at it.

No do not use neosporin. Don't use peroxide. Make sure the mouthwash would not have alcohol in it. Clean twice a day with salt resolution (1/4 teaspoon non iodized sea salt in a mug of hot water. Use when warm however no longer boiling.) Swish through mouth and easy around the piercing with a q tip.

Do the salt water (1/4 teaspoon of salt dissolved in 8oz of water) x2 a day for 10 mins each 50/50 diluted alcohol-free mouthwash x2 a day may also help. Also use 50/50 diluted tea tree oil once a day or warm chamomile teabag compresses until the bump disappears.
