Where did our debt come from?

The right wing will tell you that Obama is responsible. I think it is more like this.

So, let's see. The politically neutral Congressional Budget Office says that G. DUH-bya Bush's TWO AND A THIRD TRILLION DOLLARS in tax cuts for his billionaire friends DID NOT stimulate "job creators" at all. Instead, it put the nation into DEBT while making DUH-bya and his pals RICHER.

And then, he BORROWED about another FOUR TRILLION DOLLARS to go on a wild goose chase for Saddam Hussein's "weapons of mass destruction." Because he and Big Dick Cheney "knew" where they were.

And then, he and his crooked REPUBLICAN friends argued that ordinary Americans should pay both for the money he stole from them, and also for the money he squandered.

I think that's absolutely correct. That's what I've been saying for years.

What's frightening and incredible is that there were well over forty percent of the voters in this country who were such idiots that they BELIEVED that Mitt Romney and the Republicans were the people to put BACK into office.

I feel it is beautiful apparent that it has been the apply of reagonomics for some 30 years (with pauses) that's mainly liable. Immoderate security spending along with tax cuts. Offers a first-rate short-term increase to the economy however in the end the bubbles crumple and we are left to select up the pieces. And here we are.

Could it be we're giving too much aid to foreign countries? Maybe we should start keeping it here

Thank you for the link. It is good to have it broken down like this. I guess you know there are many who consider this bunk, I do wish the whole nation would come together and begin learning and healing, but there are still the ones without sense, who would blame everything on a single person not the whole political game.

The right wing doesn't know they lost the election yet, someone should let them know.

It reminds me of Paul Ryan all of a sudden becoming fiscally responsible even though he voted for everything Bush asked for. All politicians love to spend money they don't have but it would be nice for someone to be accountable.

I would agree with Lamont this time and i am sure that if his dad (Red) was here he would be having one of his heart attacks to see some of the other answers.

It came on because of a lot of things. The unwinnable wars in Iraq and Afghanistan lasted way too long and cost us more than we could afford, and then we borrowed money from China (not a good idea). We've shipped jobs overseas, and we have let our infrastructure get old and outdated. Now we have to face the music, and it's not a pretty thought about what is going to happen to us. The last time our highway system was updated was when Eisenhower was in office. We're sadly behind the times.

I read that the ''war'' in Iraq cost $500,000.00 a minute!!!!

I can't remember what that totals in a day, but it's huge.

That's where a good chunk of it went.

Whew, I can wipe my brow. Thought you were going to blame me.No,I never blamed it on President Obama, because he walked into a mess.I don't hate President Bush, I just don't like him. And Cheney scared the hell out of me for some reason. I was always holding my breath that something would not happen to Bush and we would be stuck with Cheney. Funny thing I liked Laura Bush.
