how to tell whether it is a bad inverter or lcd display. Will work on lowest briteness?
trying to turn up the briteness even a little will cause the screen to go black.

Take a flashlight and put it really close to the screen at a slight angle, if you can still see the information that should be on the screen, then the inverter is bad.
