What does a tattoo artist practice on?

Even if they are a good artist, it must be different than painting on a canvas or paper. Or maybe it isn't. Do they practice on something other than skin first or just rely on their natural.

Many thanks. I'm just curious

There's fake skins to practice with at first, or practicing on grapefruit, oranges, and melons. Once they learn that, they're able to move on to the next step: tattooing themselves. Under the watchful eye of your mentor, you'll advance to tattooing friends or family, or if someone is feeling brave and lets you tattoo them (you'll be tattooing for free at first, so if you f*ck up, at least they didn't pay for the f*ck up). And tattooing is completely different. Imagine trying to draw with a large, vibrating brick on a rubbery surface.

Yes,it's different, since it's not a totally flat area. I've seen different fruits used-different people seem to have different ideas on which is best, but typically I'll see oranges, grapefruits,& bananas. It's probably gives a better idea since they have curves. Then, they'll practice on people.
