Do wild birds need to be fed more in the fall and winter seasons?
I feed a group of wild birds nearby and I wonder if they need seed more in the fall and winter months? If I move away and stop their supply of food, is it better to do so in the spring or summer?
I live in South Central Arizona, where it doesn't snow in the winter but it gets cold. The type of birds I feed are pigeons and sparrows.

Wild birds can find their own food…mosquitoes and other insects, worms, fruits/veggies.
They even eat other birds…Some birds attack and kill while other feed on dead animals (it’s a natural cleaning system for the environment).
You only feed them with seeds to attract them to your backyard so you can watch them up close.
I’m not an expert on birds (I somehow stumbled upon your question) but I think you’d have to mention where you live and what kind of wild birds you’re talking about to get the right answer.
Birds often move South in the fall and winter (like to Florida or South America) so if you put seeds out, they will be more likely taken by squirrels, chipmunks or other animals (the ones not hibernating yet).
I always know that spring is coming when the songs of birds start waking me up at dawn because they came back from the South to my neck of the wood.
I love watching birds feeding in my backyard. I don’t even use a birdhouse; I just throw seeds around for equal opportunity feeding for both birds and rodents (I love to watch those cute chipmunks).
It is very interesting to watch the interaction between birds and other animals. Like male birds are often very colorful to attract females (like blue jays) and very protective of their female. They’ll come eat first and look right and left looking very worried and nervous so if there is a predator nearby (like a cat, hiding in a bush), he’ll be the one being chased. Once he decides that the “coast is clear”, then the female (usually she has boring colors) comes to feed and the male will go around her like a bodyguard to protect her from harm. Some birds have somehow some kind of superior ranking and are more aggressive towards other birds or animals and they all skedaddle…ha-ha!

make effective there's a clean section around the feeder so its very stressful for the cat to sneak up on the birds. Birds are of course careful. So if the cat has no place to conceal close to the feeder then the birds will see it coming and be risk-free. Your cat is for specific to get some no rely what you do. yet make it as complicated for the cat as you are able to and it will get some exercising on a similar time as attempting to capture the birds. And the birds will nevertheless get their foodstuff. you additionally can placed the feeders on a a procedures better than general submit in case you do not desire to clean a community of your backyard. connect it to a pulley equipment so which you would be able to diminish it to fill with seed.

If you want birds to be in your backyard on a regular basis you should fill feeders. However, if you don't feed them they will go elsewhere. Even if they are used to summer feeders they don't hang around waiting for a hand out (only humans do that). In fact the birds that frequent your feeders will have many other stops during the day for getting/finding food. In the fall & winter they are able to find wild seeds plus berries & small fruits that mature late season. If there are ice storms or deep snow there could be a problem for the birds finding enough food in winter. That's when feeding can help a few birds thru that might not make it otherwise.

Summer probably since spring is nesting season. I always use that phrase ' Dont feed the birds unless you can continue forever' to apply to people as well. Once you give a benefit, difficult to remove it.
