Do White tailed deer behave differently at night?
Hunting season here, the deer run all day long -- I see their tails only. At night the deer do not run from me, they just stand there all back lighted (I see them clearly, I speak to them) and they do not run. Why? Do they not fear people at night or do they not fear usual daylight problems at night? I walk my dogs at night and they just move out of the way, they do not run away. ----- These are semi-city deer, they are different than country deer but they are still hunted (I have 60 acres).
Sisyphus, there is absolutely a difference between city deer and country deer. I can walk through the herd in the summer, they know they do not need to run. So long as I keep fifteen feet away and talk at them the whole time they just hold their ground. Country deer are different. Hunting season is when the rules change.

I also saw white deer with brown spots in my yard in Howard County Maryland years ago. I thought they were goats at first. I saw them quite a lot for 5 -10 years then I moved away. The white deer were fatter and clumsier than the regular deer. That is the only difference I could see. I have a picture of them standing on their hind legs eating apples from the tree in the orchard. Actually, that was such a nice place, I wish I never moved away.!

I'm not sure about your question but be careful because deer will attack a flashlight if it is blinding them. :)
