I'm a 2 cat owner and a 1 dog owner. Although my dog will never harm a resident cat I make no such guarantee for any other cat that enters my property.
Problem here is that I know all my neighbours cats, so I would be compelled to inform them if my dog killed one. On the other hand, all my neighbours and myself are fully aware of the perils of letting our cats roam free, so it really wouldn't be a big issue here.

if you decide to bury the cat, dont do it in your yard. your dog may dig the cat back up in a few weeks"happen to my brother in law" and it becomes a real nasty mess. You could take the cat to the vet, most vets dispose of the animal for you "they cremate it then spread the ashes in a nice place" Dont put your dog on a short leash, that will drive your dog nuts, its his yard he was being protective of his yard.

Go throw the cat away in a nearby dumpster.

Are you sure it was stray ? Maby worth taking the vets to make sure it chipped so the owners of the missing cat can finally rest ? ... If it where my dog cat I would do that like running the cat over ? ... The cat could have got its collor off ? ... :) xxx

I think that you should berry it because I think that you should at least show it respect by not trashing it. If you don't have your dogs on a short leash get your dogs on a leash because that's not cool at all and fix your fence I pray that that doesn't happen again..

Dispose of body and forget it happened.
The cat was in your yard, had the owners cared
anything for their cat, they would have kept it inside.

The dog was in your yard, the cat was a stray (no owner to notify). Not much you can do. Wrap the cat in a plastic bag and put in the trash can.
