How do I enable scrolling with my laptop touch pad (Toshiba Satellite L455)?
I have a Toshiba Satellite 455 with Windows 7 and a Synaptics mouse/pointer and the touch pad won't work. When I try scrolling from either the far right or bottom, the image that it normally shows (of the scroll bar in place of where ever the pointer is) does come up, but it does not cause the page to move up/down/left/right. I've had this computer for about three years now, and haven't had this problem.
I tried to go into control panel and checking the different tabs for the mouse/pointer settings, but it just says that the device is already working properly. I found the tab that said "device settings" and then selected "settings" under that, but it just acted like the device was working properly. I also tried updating the driver, but was told that I already have the most recent version. I tried disabling the pointer and then re-enabling, but that didn't work either.
I have no idea what's wrong with it. I've been trying different solutions I can find online, but they all say the same thing and it isn't working.
I can still use the touch pad to move the pointer around with my finger and use the pointer to click buttons by tapping the touch pad and highlight text, but I can't make it scroll.
How do I enable scrolling? If I need to uninstall the whole thing, how do I re-install it?
Thanks!!
That's actually what I've been trying to do. When I go to "Mouse Properties", I choose the "Device Settings" tab. Under that I get only one device, the "Synaptics TouchPad V7.0". When I select "Settings" under that, in another window, I get five settings: Synaptics Overview, Scrolling, Pointing, Buttons, and Tapping.
I clicked Scrolling, and got a thing on the right telling me I could choose to either scroll the item under the pointer or the selected item. The bubble for "Scroll selected item" was alreay filled. Then there was a box if I wanted to "enable reverse scrolling direction" I left that box unchecked. Under that, there was the option for the speed of scrolling. It was on the middle setting and I left it there.
The options list on the left had a box with a plus sign in it next to the word "scrolling" so I clicked that. The option that came up was "One-Finger Scrolling" and under that was

You need to go to the control panel then to mouse then to devise settings then select the touch pad then settings and there you will have another drop down box where you will find the scrolling settings

first thing to do is go into control panel and find out if any updates were installed for the touchpad. i had that problem with my toshiba after i bought it. check and see if you can roll back an update for that driver. that should take care of the problem. start, control panels, system, and find device manager and right click pointer devices and see if you can roll back driver. If not try and seach for a new update.
