Guinea pig burbles constantly?

For our anniversary, on Saturday my husband got me a guinea pig, because I've been lonely since we had to bring my dog to his parents (he wasn't adjusting to moving into the city). She's very young, only a month old. Since Sunday, I've been handling her, and yesterday morning, while playing on my computer, she climbed up onto my shoulder and started burbling and chirping and licking my cheek.

I looked up guinea pig noises (since I've never had one before) and it sounds like she's making happy noises, but she does it constantly when she's up on my shoulder, interspersed with licking my cheek. I was just wondering if it's normal for her to do it constantly?

Congratulations! You have just been adopted by a guinea pig :-) What you are seeing is the behavior that guinea pigs display when they are in family groups and relaxed with each other. If you watch a group of pigs relaxing peacefully together, you will hear a wide variety of burbles and chirps as they "talk" to each other almost constantly. They will commonly sit so that at least a part of them is in contact with other members of the group. They will occasionally groom each other but that is less frequent. Pigs also sometimes lick their people because they like the salt on your skin.

In short, you have a very content, well adjusted pet. Take good care of her and you will enjoy her companionship for many years to come.

Burbling is not a word Ive heard used to describe a Guinea pig noise so Im not sure exactly what you mean.

Is it like a rumbling noise?

If so, some guinea pigs pur so it may be that.

As long as she is happy, its not a bad noise.

I do recommend you get another one, guinea pigs should live in pairs.

Yes she is just happy, it sounds as though you have a very verbal guinea pig. Some guinea pigs are very verbal while other are not. The way you can tell is she is happy is by her body language, is she is relaxed and happy her words are happy ones, if her body is up tight and she is trying to get away form you then her words are not happy words simple as that.

What she is doing when she is licking you is grooming you, it shows she has accepted you as her companion!!
