  • African violets left in cold?

My husband and I moved house yesterday. One of the last things I brought to our new place was my African violets. Unfortunately I forgot them in the car overnight and didn't realize until my lunch break today. I brought them in right away and picked off any leaves that looked really bad but they're still looking pretty droopy. It was very cold last night (-15 c with wind chill) and I'm worried that I may have killed them. Is there anything I can do to save them?

  • Guinea pig burbles constantly?

For our anniversary, on Saturday my husband got me a guinea pig, because I've been lonely since we had to bring my dog to his parents (he wasn't adjusting to moving into the city). She's very young, only a month old. Since Sunday, I've been handling her, and yesterday morning, while playing on my computer, she climbed up onto my shoulder and started burbling and chirping and licking my cheek.

I looked up guinea pig noises (since I've never had one before) and it sounds like she's making happy noises, but she does it constantly when she's up on my shoulder, interspersed with licking my cheek. I was just wondering if it's normal for her to do it constantly?

  • What to do with a dog with severe separation anxiety?

I have a 5 year old 13 lb peek-a-poo who was rescued originally from a puppy mill, and then adopted again by me when his previous owners 4 year old was terrorizing him. We lived out in the country, but we recently moved into a townhouse in the city, and have already gotten complaints from the neighbors. When we leave, he goes into a panic and starts screaming (he sounds like a 2 year old child screaming sometimes) and howling. My husband and I work the same hours, so he has to be alone for about 9 hours at least 4 days a week.

We tried getting him a citronella collar but he just ignores it and keeps howling. I think it actually made it worse since he was barking in annoyance at it, when he doesn't usually bark.

I've also tried making some melatonin cookies for him to help calm him, but they take too long to work.

Even if I just put him in the basement for 30 seconds he starts screaming. He gets plenty of exercise before hand, and he has his favorite blanket down there with him.

We don't want to have to give him up or put him down, but I'm kind of at the end of my rope. Anyone else have any ideas?

  • stat holiday pay rules?

Do you get paid for a stat holiday even if you weren't scheduled to work? I got my latest pay and I wasn't paid for Labour day, but I never work Monday's. I can't find any clear answers elsewhere on this.

  • Temporary resizing of titanium rings - how?

My fiance and I are getting married in September. We're going to be getting titanium rings, for at least a while (we've agreed to get some gold rings later when we can afford it, as a personal preference). Titanium rings cannot be re-sized, but my fiance's fingers change in size quite a bit, from 11 to 13 depending on the time of year and his weight. We've decided to go ahead and get him a ring in size 13, since that's what he's wearing now, but we're getting into hiking later this year and are probably going to be losing some weight.

So, the question is, if he loses some weight and his fingers get smaller, how could we temporarily re-size his ring? We don't want to get another ring that's smaller, since that would kind of defeat the point.

    Thanks for your help!

  • What to do with gluten free rice flour?

During the summer, I got interested in Japanese treats, and wanted to try some. Unfortunately, I mistakenly picked up gluten free white rice flour instead of the glutinous kind (which apparently is nowhere to be found in North America unless you special order it...) with disastrous results. Now I have about 4 cups left and nothing to do with it. I'd like to bake something sweet. Any suggestions?

  • Need to find a recipe for Moka Cake?

My boyfriend loves Moka cakes that are made, I believe, by Vachon. Unfortunately, they're only available during December and part of January, as they're a seasonal thing. I've looked everywhere for a recipe and can't even find proof of their existance, let alone a recipe!

I'd really love to find a recipe to surprise him with it. If you have one, or know of one that makes a similar type of cake, please let me know.

I'm not sure if Moka's are available in the rest of Canada, but they're in Quebec and the atlantic provinces for sure.

I can whip up an icing that is quite similar to the icing, so I really just need the cake recipe. Thanks!

  • I need information on Wood (Sylvan) Elf Lore.?

I'm trying to write a story based upon a character I developed over two years ago along with my boyfriend. Unfortunately, at the time, I did not know anything about Wood (or as they're sometimes referred to, Sylvan) Elf lore.

What I'm looking for is information on their personal relationships, how they interact with others of their own kind, reproduction, that sort of thing. After scouring the internet for hours with every combination of words I can think of, I've come up with "They don't like anybody else, and if anybody seems to want to harm them, they shoot them." Not exactly what I'm looking for...

I'm going off of the D&D/Warhammer type of Wood Elf. If anybody can help me, please let me know!
