What is the difference between "entschuldigen" and "es tut mir leid." I'm under the impression that entshuldigen is used when you want to get someones attention and es tut mir leid is used to apologize. Is this correct?

Entschuldigung : excuse me, pardon, sorry
es tut mir leid : i am sorry
