Is it bad that I am skipping Thanksgiving?

Here is the deal. I have had a very depressing two years and once again I am skipping out on my family and spending Thanksgiving alone. I have a sister who put a lot into the dinner but alas I can’t bring myself to be around people who are successful when I myself am now unemployed have no cell phone or no car.

You are right to make your own decisions. I too am skipping Thanksgiving this year, because I am having a similar rough time...not working..and feeling somewhat depressed. Making this decision to stay home felt empowering, since alot of other things in my life have been out of my control lately. I am looking forward to seeing what it feels like to skip all the hype. To me, it's just another day, since I see my family on a regular basis anyway. They are about 3 hours away...but I try to make time to go see them. Take this time to clear your head, relax and think about the positive things you will gain by being solo this year. It isn't about feeling sorry for yourself, like someone commented. You are obviously searching for some good advice and support, so I think you should get it. Good Luck and don't beat yourself up. I bet there are alot of people out there who wish they had the courage to stick to their guns and just say "Sorry family, I just can't do it this year." Hopefully you have a family who will understand.

Yes, it's okay to skip thanksgiving, I'm 14 and have never even heard of what thanksgiving is, let alone do it, so who cares?!

So, instead of spending the day with your loving family, you're going to sit at home and feel sorry for yourself?

Of course it's okay. They should understand.
