Error 999 when trying to post message on group website?
This morning (11/22/12) I've been getting an Error 999 when trying to post a message on my group's website. Is anyone else having this problem? And yes, I did a virus scan and there are none on my computer.
It spontaneously cleared up all by itself later that day. My opinion: Yahoo doesn't have enough servers to handle the load on high traffic days. That's when this Error 999 issue comes up.

Error 999 IS a ban on all account activity ... a censor tool on your activity temporarily, used by Yahoo to block a person’s ISP! It is a result of too much activity of one of a variety of types in too short a time. Somehow, you exceeded the limits, and must wait a while to access your account or web page again - usually 24 hours is enough.
Read the Yahoo Help page for trouble-shooting advice: (The limit is 100 addresses per mail, but send to far fewer than that in each message, just in case you trigger Yahoo's spam 'suspicious activity' detector.)

Both of these answers contain detailed ideas on how to solve the problem. They list many different solutions ...
Too bad Yahoo won't allow names of the original answerers to give credit for their thorough answers! (I do not copy the answers of others ...)

Full details and possible solutions are found on the following web page ...
"The 999 error is usually seen when too many accounts are created from a single IP address within a 24 hour period. Almost all account creation programs will encounter a 999 error once the abuse quota has been met. Other similar actions such as excessive posting on community message boards, SPAM like behavior in Yahoo! Mail, or too many password attempts for a particular account may also result in a 999 error. Yahoo! is constantly tuning their systems to prevent abuse so the exact list or amount of suspicious behavior is not known and is subject to change at any time."

The below was from Yahoo! 360 blog which is no longer there- I'd clear your cookies and temp files, that usually clears it up
"If you're on refreshing Yahoo! pages a lot - a LOT - I'm talking hundreds of pages per hour - the Yahoo! servers will start getting concerned that you're trying to a Denial-of-Service attack, meaning that you're purposely taking up bandwidth so that other Yahoo! users can't use the site. When that happens, you
get an Error 999 and you'll not be able to access the site for an hour or so. After time passes, you're able to access Yahoo! in your usual way."
If you get the 999 errors without a good reason, it might be because someone else using the same IP address is also using Yahoo! This is quite common in families with multiple PCs sharing a single IP address off a home router with connectivity via Cable or DSL. It's also common in College dorms and some apartments where internet access supplied and shared throughout a building unit. (The usage is oversubscribed for the nodes provided by the gateway.)"
That said, if you clear your cookies and temp files and reboot doesn't work, there have been past gitches related to Yahoo which only they could fix.
