Why does my furnace turn on and off at unwanted times?

My thermostat is correctly programmed and switches on and off at the desired times. The furnace however, sometimes doesn't operate when the thermostat is "on" and sometimes comes on when it's "off". It looks as though the pilot remains lit during "off" times. I have to turn the electricity off, then on to get the furnace to blow. What's going on!?

pilot stays on all the time as long as the gas is on and furnace is set to on, thermostat on the other hand could be off all it does is tell your furnace when to and not to kick on. sometimes they take some time to kick on or off. could be delayed reactions. Try having it serviced.

change your filter, clean all return ducts.

You may need to call in a service guy
