Are you allowed to re-type a story for yourself to preserve it with the Authurs na?

If they already own the book

the book is no longer sold & the type in all the rights is that permitted? (once again just to preserve a book that's getting old) Thank You. Please be apropiate and do not spam. thank you

    Merely retyping another's work does not give you any right to it.

    Even if the book is not currently in print. Just because an author's publisher is not currently selling new copy does not mean you have a right to steal his work.

    You can I do it all the time with books I love. Just don't make copies and sell it to people or say you wrote it
