They only listen to those with whom they agree. If you want to see something amusing/frightening, go to YouTube and look for FoxNews pre-election predictions. Their talking heads were predicting things such as "a 5-10% victory in the popular vote" (for perspective, Obama only beat McCain in 2008 by 7%) and "more than 300 electoral votes" (Romney got 206 votes). In debate, people tend to retreat further and further back to their core positions. That's what the Republicans are doing. Unless they do the same kind of soul-searching they did after LBJ drubbed Goldwater in 1964, they will be irrelevant for a generation.
