Very angry at the hospital!!!?

Okay, I gave birth to my daughter 6 months ago. And they gave me the depo shot two days later. Didn't actually explain what the effects would be. Me, tired, signed permission and all that thinking if this kept me from getting pregnant again why not? So, I usually lose the weight after having a child. I have three. This time I didn't. My hormones been up the wall. I started gaining weight bit by bit and I can't stop it! I been depressed. I never been this huge only if I was pregnant. So I decided to not go in for another shot thinking it was the depo. But here I am with the same symptoms. But a few we're added on, I'm sleepy all the time and I pee more often. Shouldn't they warn you what the after effects of getting off the depo??? Like the whole menstral cycle been all wacky??? Oh and I have a history of depression, shouldn't they have not given me the shot if I have a history of depression? I admit its not the best hospital in the world, but it's the only one I could go to! Oh and before I found out I was pregnant I told my doc I could be pregnant and it's too early for a pregnancy test. Yet she did it anyway and when it turned negative she offered the depo. I said no. But she insisted. She kept insisting so I gave in! Then a few weeks ago I found out I was indeed pregnant and she insisted nothing could happen to my baby. But I was angry with her anyway and stormed off. Angry at myself for letting her carry on and on of how I should prevent another pregnancy. Okay my point is, is it wrong of them to not tell you the after effects of getting off depo?!? And if you already have a history of depression, and they don't check up on that and give it to you anyway??? Idk. I'm all sorts of hormonal and just wanted to let it out. What are your opinions on this. Oh and your negative comments are ignored. I'll just laugh it off though.

Honestly- this happens alot. Not specific to your situation. But hospitals are notorious for doing things and badgering people into doing things they don't agree with. Most for the hospitals convenience. I don't see how they could benefit from it. I mean there are so many women who go in with a birth plan and their birth plans don't even get looked at in a situation where the patient has an option to choose. I heard a story about a woman who didn't want to vaccinate her newborn right away. And she literally had a fight with the nurses about it because they didn't want to respect her wishes. This is how so many women try to avoid hospitals. I think that women's care in hospitals is becoming more like a sick business than it is a caring and healthy decision. There are alot of hospitals who hand out Pitocin drips like candy because they want the mother in and out of the hospital in a certain amount of time. so if you're not having your baby fast enough- they just pump you full of medicines that make you have the baby faster. So I'm not surprised by the fact that this lady badgered you into getting hormonal contraceptives. Who knows what incentive she had for doing it, but it's all a good reason for why I will be shopping birthing centers long before I give birth because, i prefer my wishes to be respected as best as they can be, not have decisions made for me because the nurse or doctor thought it would be convenient.

You gave consent. Before they give yu any form of birth control they give all sorts of info on it. Where I live the hospital piuts together a binder given to all pregnant women at their first doctor' appoinment and one of the topics is birth control options and the risk and benefits of each. There is also the internet you can access. '

They also do not check for depression after going off birth control. They only do a depression assements after the birth of the baby, after stopping breastfeeding, or when you ask for one. if you were feeling depressed and thought it was related to the Depo, you should have called and asked. Not the doctor's fault. It sounds like you didn't read the fine print.

Every practice, no matter how good or bad, will have you sign a waiver before you go in. They need your permission to get the shot and on the form it shows what the shot is and any possible side effects. Also you can look up the drug they gave you on the internet. Also you can take someone with you next time so you don't feel pressured. Congrats on the baby though!

The hospital is an institution and does not prescribe. The doctor prescribes the drugs that you signed for. Stop blaming the hospital and speak to your doctor about these issues. And from now on, don't agree to any drugs unless you understand the risks as well as the benefits, and don't have unprotected sex if you don't want to get pregnant..

They did tell you the effects, when you signed the paperwork.

    You signed and didn't read.

This is not the hospital fault, it's yours.
