The E series use a shared component/composite input stage, which means you're limited by what you can connect. By "shared", that means the one set of inputs on the TV can be used by 2 different inputs (not at the same time).
In this case, it can run component input (red, green and blue cables for video, and red and white for audio) or composite input (yellow for video, red and white for audio).
Composite input is what you want so i believe if you plug the yellow cable from your dvd player into the green socket on the tv, and the red and white cables into the red and white sockets named "audio in" and change the source on the TV to "composite/component in" or something like that, it should work for you.

First, turn off the tv and dvd player. Then you plug the yellow video, and red and white audio into matching inputs on the tv. They may be on the side or the back. When you plug them into the tv look under the input, probably AV 1 or something like that, but get the exact input name. Then you turn on the tv and hit the source button on the tv's remote till that input shows on the screen. Turn on the dvd player and it should be there. A regular dvd player on an HD tv won't look very good tho, SD into an HD tv is not very clear. If your dvd player has component outputs, red/blue/green video + red/white audio, the pic will be much better and your tv will have those inputs for sure. Component cables are very inexpensive if your dvd player has them think about upgrading the yellow/red/white cable you have now.

I had a tv WAY back (like 1980s) and there was no button to switch between TV and the external video feed - As I recall, the input defaulted to a specific channel - I can't remember which one - Like channel 3 or something.

The TV should also have the same type of red white and yellow connectors on the back or bottom, labeled "input'. It might have more than one set of inputs; if so make sure you connect everything to the same input.
Then to set the TV to that input press the button on the TV or remote that's named VIDEO or SOURCE or INPUT. You may have to press it more than once.
If the TV doesn't have yellow and red and white connectors, then it will probably have HDMI input instead, and you'll need an adapter like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Composite-S-video-Audio-HDMI...

When you read a book you see the story the way you want to assume it not what sort of director wants anyone to see it
