Why is animal sacrifice considered wrong?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the animals eaten afterwards? And wern't they kept in really nice conditions? How is that worse from the factory farming that goes on today?

Also, is animal sacrifice considered illegal?

Update:

"...They focused on the next stage of the ritual, the cooking and eating of the meat that was produced by the sacrifice..."

Update 2:

Factory farmed animals aren't put to sleep with an injection either. I understand that the main motivation would be different, but if the animal was eaten, though not all rituals would have allowed that, why does it matter if the death was for religious purposes?

Update 3:

and no i dont think himans should be sacrificed

It isn't wrong in the Temple. But, then, the Temple has not existed for a very long time.

No. No. Israel as a pastoral nation at the time.

    Usually.

The idea of animal sacrifice is 'wrong' in most people's eyes because the connection between the animal and the sacrificer is so intimate. People can look away and pretend that animal abuse isn't happening on factory farms and ranches because they don't see it. You can't witness someone cutting off the head of a chicken or slicing a lamb's neck without actually having the death 'hit home'.

I don't think the ancient rites were wrong, they were correct to the culture and time in which they occurred. I don't believe animal sacrifice should still be performed or condoned today. Most people wouldn't even know HOW to it properly, and the animal would suffer. So, yes, it is illegal, it is a felony in most states as it comes under 'animal abuse'. Most people now know/understand that 'god' or 'the gods' don't want or need animal sacrifice. Our spiritual and mental attitude is much more important than the heart of a deer or the liver of a dog or such.

No, not necessarily (it depends on the religion/ritual).

Even when looking at a religion that does consume the animal after the sacrifice, there’s still the issue of inflicting unnecessary pain on the creature (which certainly does happen in certain rituals). It’s not like these ‘holy men’ put the animals to sleep with an injection; a lot of them still slit the throat of the poor things.

    *edit*

You wrote, "Factory farmed animals aren't put to sleep with an injection either."

That is true, at least for animals such as chickens. Animals such as pigs, however, in reputable slaughterhouses, are normally electrocuted (thongs to the side of the head to cause instant death [throats are cut after this]). And this is why I’m rather selective on what type of meat I eat, and from where. I avoid fast food places precisely for the reason that factory farmed animals, such as chickens, do endure rather miserable lives (and deaths). I also wouldn’t touch Halal meat with a barge pole.

If these religions/cults were using methods that reputable slaughterhouses used, then I wouldn’t have an issue with it. But they’re not. And it isn’t a necessarily a case of hypocrisy *if* one is trying their best to source meat from places that use humane methods of slaughter.

Yes you are wrong - original animal sacrifices were not eaten afterwards. They were left out in the open and there is no evidence to suggest they were kept in nice conditions before sacrificed.

We factory farm for food not for some mumbo-jumbo reason. Why shd innocent animals die for nothing. We don't have the right.

I can't right say, because Able sacrificed a lamb to God. I think it has more to do with the New testament. The difference between The production of beef and sacrifice is motive. As for the legality, i do believe it is illegal do to animal cruelty.

Precisely. You can kill millions to eat them but sacrificing them is sick and wrong.
