Should we tax churches after we raise taxes on the rich to fair levels?

If cons want "entitlement" reform we'll propose churches pay a fair share.

I'm okay with that, it would generate billions in revenue.

What exactly is a "fair level"?

If Republicans let Democrats raise taxes on the rich to a fair level now, will Democrats pledge to never raise taxes on the rich again, since that would raise it to an unfair level?

Then churches will have no money for charity and considering they run 99% of the feed the homeless shelters and sleeping areas that wouldn't exactly be good. But I guess liberals never stop to think about that stuff do you?

It's not what you believe in so to you it's just useless.

    Ignorance must be bliss...

All non profits including churches are tax exempt only when they reach th point that they give away as much or more as their tax bill would be.

Would you rather churches give away their money to the needy in their community or to the fed govt?

I think society is better off leaving the churches alone

Any churches "suggesting" to people how they should vote should lose their non-profit status.

Religious organizations agreed to certain IRS restrictions when they accepted tax exempt status.

They can openly support candidates but then they should not be allowed to be tax exempt.

Of course churches should be taxed!

It isn't infringing on religious beliefs and there is no strong basis for why churches should not be taxed.

It is a public organization like any other.

Only if we tax atheist organizations, too. Gotta be fair.
