Dream about a snake, what does this mean?
I had a dream last night where there was a snake that had patterns on it that looked like Aboriginal Australian's paintings. The snake was in my room, so my father and I tried to catch it to move it outside. I put it in a bag, but when I got outside, it had shrivelled up and died and now looked like it had grown legs like a lizard. I was very upset as I had not intended to kill it, and I woke up with a very sad feeling. I have heard that snakes are supposed to be very symbolic in dreams. Is this true and does anyone have an interpretation of what this dream could have meant?
thankyou

I've yet to see any evidence a snake means sexuality or is phallic, which was obviously based solely on appearances - the exact things dreams are not.
Yours is an interesting snake dream, which are one of the most common, because the threat or danger the snake represents is ambiguous, because you didn't want to kill it.
This fits with the artistic designs on it.
So the snake is something, some idea, you had inside you that should not be there, hence your dad and you went to put it outside of yourself. Even if your dad didn't really help, his idea did.
I wonder if the patterns may refer to your thought patterns, and perhaps primitive, though beautiful, maybe creative. It's like you have decorated this potentially harmful or undesirable thing, maybe to make it beautiful. Ot it just displays the beauty or even ceremony you thought on it.
Or means you tried to culture what is primitive or dangerous in you.
Interestingly, Aboriginals use symbols, like dreams.
Anyway, you bagged it, meaning contained it, so it would not have it's influence or effect.
The idea shriveled up and died, though it tried to 'grow legs' or move, in your life.
This upset you as you had not intended to kill what it was.

So perhaps your dad meant you had to rid an beautiful, primal, idea due to him he thought a potential danger. Hey, I might be wrong about what I said first, haa. Of course a snake can represent that.

Snakes, spiders, lizards, they are all the same. They are symbolic of lying spirits and spirits of confusion, Isaiah 59:4-5. Pray about the dream.

To see a snake or be bitten by one in your dream signifies hidden fears and worries that are threatening you. Your dream may be alerting you to something in your waking life that you are not aware of or that has not yet surfaced. Alternatively, the snake may be seen as phallic and thus symbolize temptation, dangerous and forbidden sexuality. In particular, to see a snake on your bed suggests that you are feeling sexually overpowered or sexually threatened. You may be inexperienced, nervous or just unable to keep up. If you are afraid of the snake, then it signifies your fears of sex, intimacy or commitment. The snake may also refer to a person around you who is callous, ruthless, and can't be trusted. As a positive symbol, snakes represent healing, transformation, knowledge and wisdom. It is indicative of self-renewal and positive change. meanings by DreamMoods.com
To see the skin of a snake in your dream represents protection from illnesses.
To see a snake with a head on each end in your dream suggests that you are being pulled in two different directions. You are feeling overburdened and do not know whether you are coming or going. Your actions are counterproductive. Perhaps the dream represents some complicated love triangle. Alternatively, the dream signifies your desires for children. If you see a two-headed snake in your dream, then it refers to cooperation and teamwork in some relationship.
To dream of a snake without a head or without any eyes implies that you are refusing to see the danger in a situation. Alternatively, it means that you are being blindsided.
To dream that you are eating a live snake indicates that you are looking for intimacy or sexual fulfillment. Your life is lacking sensuality and passion. If you vomit or throw up the snake, then it may mean that you are overcompensating for something that is lacking in your life. You may be rushing into something.
