How do you simplify this?

Please can you show how to work it out and explain if possible

    2a+3(a+4)

    Then do the distributive property

    2a+3a+12

    combine like terms

    5a+12

    That is the answer!

    combine the like words: 1st case: 6x-5x-3x= -2x and four+3-(-5)=12 (subtracting -5 is comparable to including 5). So the simplified term is 12-2x 2d case: 4x+x=5x and (-3)+(-7)-5=-15. So the simplified term is 5x-15
