How can I make my ignorant family recognise and accept I have depression?

I'm not looking for their sympathy or attention. I actually just want them to leave me alone. I'm 100% certain I have depression and I know it's not mild. My doctor asked me if I have feelings of depression, I said I'm pretty sure I have it, yet he didn't prescribe me anything. Perhaps it was something to do with a back injury he may have thought I was faking..why he asked, I just don't know.

At any rate, I can't trust most of my family. If they offer to help me in any way, there's usually an ulterior motive and the older my parents get the more they are hanging around like vultures I have noticed. I live like a recluse and can't handle their BS anymore. I just want to get a diagnosis, so I have a valid reason not to have to deal with them. Not to get out of working or anything.. My first guess is to change doctors. I'm living in limbo, like someone who has died and is a ghost. I think about dying a lot, yet am too hopless to get my affairs in order to even do that. Help me out here.. please?

My parents are kind of the same way. I went through a period in my life where I would hang out with stoned chicks all the time and think that was cool (not saying that is what you are doing). Whenever I told my parents that I was going though depression, they thought I was on drugs, so honestly there is no logical/right way to tell your parents that you are depressed because they will think there is a reason behind it even if there is not. I'm sorry if I am sharing too much personal information with you but I went through a depressive stage also and honestly there is no best way to tell your parents that you are depressed because they will think there is some sort of reason behind it even if there is not, I'm sorry to tell you this but if you are depressed, stop hanging out with people that make you feel depressed, and stop doing activities that make you depressed. I know you don't want to hear this but if you are depressed it is either just an emotional response to something, or you are doing too many drugs :(

sorry for saying even if there is not twice in a row :(

Make an appointment with a psychiatrist.
