Will mangrove survive in stagnant water that is not brackish?

There's a pool nearby and it's been murky for quiet awhile. I think having it with mangrove could be a good thing. But I read somewhere that mangroves only thrive in brackish water. Any advice would be very helpful.

By the way, it's the size of one and a half Olympic-size swimming pool.

"Mangroves live life on the edge. With one foot on land and one in the sea, these botanical amphibians occupy a zone of desiccating heat, choking mud, and salt levels that would kill an ordinary plant within hours." So yes they live in brackish water.
