Harley Brake Lever Not Working?
I have a 2002 Harley sportster 1200c and just installed new handlebars that required longer cables. I have the new brake line installed and have bleed the front brakes but the brake lever is not building up any pressure like it should and the front brakes don't work. Is there a trick to making them operate properly. The lever is making contact with the master cylinder plunger and there are no air bubbles in the line.

You also have to bleed the line at the banjo bolt where it connects to the master cylinder

Sounds like your local shop needs someone more experienced or an old fart like me who's been around for a while. It sounds to me that you need new seals in the master cylinder (on the handlebars). The clue is the slow/fast thing. A seal with a slow leak allows the fluid to leak past the seal when you apply pressure slowly, but when you squeeze fast, the fluid doesn't have time to leak past it. Seal kits for bikes are usually $30-$40 but you will need to or get someone to install it. Many master cylinders require snap ring pliers too remove the snap ring so that you can remove the plunger. I don't think it's air and bleeding the system again won't do any good. Air is going to compress regardless of whether you apply the brakes fast or slow. Were it the brake cylinders on the calipers, there's be fluid on the brakes and tire or else that paraticular brake would be siezed up and not function at all. With only one brake working, you'd certainly know from the lack of braking power.

Not a betting man but I'll betcha there's still air in the line.
Keep pumping.

Did you read the bleeding instructions or the bleeding service manual.
You shouldn't have bothered you should have just got a professional to do it - no not even one of your mates.
did you know there is a technique to fill from below. maybe if you read the backwards explanation you might understand the forwards one.....doubt it
clue: gravity not pumped.
