There is a chat place called Digital Space Traveler that is monitored. It uses Avatars and they have close to 1000 rooms. You can make an avatar from a couple of list. Booters are useless in there and people have been trying for 10 years to try and find a booter that will work. Its the way the server is set up is why they absolutely wont work. And the owners will not tolerate harrassment by thugs. There is no spam whatsoever and its free. The only thing that cant be used is cams. What I do is leave my Yahoo Messenger up if in talking to someone and they want to see my cam (which I very seldom use). You can block someone just like you do in Yahoo and YOU CAN make private rooms so you and a group of friends want to chat privately. I used this for close to 10 years and its much better then Yahoo chat rooms. The chat rooms are pretty cool and its like you are floating in space. The program is 99% voice chat but you can send instant messages. Its not like Yahoo where you can see everything that someone types. Its very easy to use once you learn the controls. For example using the controls: To move through space or turn left or right you would use the arrow buttons on the bottom right of your keyboard. Or to use voice you would press the CTRL buttom while you talk. You can contact me a kd4qhg at yahoo dot com if you need anymore information.

I will stop using all other yahoo services including the email service . Yahoo chat rooms was the main reason for me to be keep sticking with yahoo .I also use their Premium mail service which i will discontinue ...

I don't think yahoo has done enough justice with the chat room service , It like acquiring monopoly and suddenly deciding to close everything ....chatrooms was the only and great place to meat people of different culture ...

I'm afraid to say that paltalk is not as user friendly as yahoo id ..the interface and other features are not that cool .....Yahoo should reconsider their decision ...I have also been told by some friends of mine that many cases were filed against yahoochatrooms for sexual harrasment and teext sex , chat sex charges ..this can be one of the reason for the closure ..they can very well reduce the number of rooms and moderate it ...anyway this is very dissapointing

    GoodBye Yahoo .

International News Services (such as the BBC - seen link below) are now confirming it - Yahoo is closing down public chat rooms forever. Yahoo said the feature was closing because it was not "adding enough value" for users and that "This helps us spend more energy on creating experiences that make Yahoo the most fun way to spend your time." I don't think this has anything to do with bots or spam - there will always be clever interlopers figuring out ways to beat any system. The only reason you don't see this on some sites is that they are just not as fertile territory for spam as Yahoo. People go where the money is - which raises the question - if there is enough money for spam why does Yahoo not find public chat viable? Do we really need another FB or MySpace? You can create private user rooms on Paltalk, you can instant message on Skype or FB or AIM or you name it. You can find cam sites galore. Please Yahoo reconsider. This is the ONLY GLOBAL FREE chat service in existence. The only global gathering place for instant exchange of ideas and culture. I secretly believe that much of the newly rising Democracy movement is founded upon this type of free exchange of ideas and culture. You have literally thousands of international customers here who use this as a social gathering place fo meet new friends. This is definitely news in Mumbai. NO other service has this existing base, and all complaints about spam and creepy people aside, it's the best thing going. Thank you for the years of service and please reconsider losing this valuable and unique Internet resource. Blessings to all my fellow legitimate chat friends out there - I will miss you.

I have been chatting in yahoo rooms since they were web/java based…I have met a wide variety of great people through this network..yahoo has always been my choice when it comes to email..messenger..games..even used yahoo home page for years..but as sad as it may sound, if yahoo decides to pull the plug on chat , i will discontinue use of any yahoo product, web apps,i will also be changing email providers..they are making a big mistake..and they will see that in the long run..they will lose alot their loyal customers like myself.and they will see a huge decline in “premium’ account holders.people rely on these chat services more than these idiots realize obviously..yahoo chat is one of the original social networks for me, and many others. And the bots and Spam is no excuse,.to pull the plug.yahoo has the power, and know how,to hire the top notch developers and programmers to find and fix the bugs, spam,etc..create different logins protocols etc..they chose not to..in my opinion they are admitting defeat to the scammers booters and thugs..that is just my 2 cents..I am very disappointed, and upset to hear yahoo’s decision to close down chatrooms. Plain and simple they just aren’t making enough revenue off it.. SCREW YOU YAHOO, I WILL MISS YOU..:(
