Should I donate to wikipedia?

I am sure most people have seen the yellow tab on top of wikipedia which asks us to donate money.

How smart of an idea do you think is it to donate to them? I mean I would love to donate considering I use wikipedia every day of my life but I am a bit apprehensive considering there seems to be no check and balance as to who and where the money will be used for.

Any opinions?

I have given 30 bucks as like you I use the resource everyday and am confident they know how to spend their donations. Where else would the money go? Wikipedia is not a front for some sinister plot.

There is a "check and balance." As a nonprofit organization they'd still have to disclose the amount of funds they're taking in, how they're getting used, etc. It's not like some individual can just pocket your money and run off with it. They'd use the funds to keep Wikipedia going as best they can assess it. And yes they do actually have statements about how things get used if you look carefully.

If you use it every day, yes, you should probably donate something. If you don't it won't be able to sustain, or it will have to shift eventually to a for-profit paysite which can be more biased, etc.

particular, human beings donate to it (i'm not certainly one of them, even although i'm someone. i've got not got any funds :p). it fairly is not a call for to donate, and additionally you could not experience obligated to donate to Wikipedia no remember how based you're on it. yet particular, a small donation will help, and in case you have chose to donate, you could not hesitate to realize this.

    Yes, I think it's a good idea.

It's actually better than PBS because unlike PBS, anyone can contribute ideas, insights and verifiable information to the site.

Whereas, most other media entities want us to read their stuff but don't allow us to bring what we know into their forum.

I'm sure it's a good idea... People write articles, based on verifiable resources, in order to inform others, and they don't get nothing in exchange for their work...
