New Year's Eve open house food?
Every year we do an open house party on NYE (it is also my husband's Bday) We have people over starting at 5pm until WELL after midnight, in and out. THe last few years I have done either Gyros, Chinese food (kept hot in crock pots) or "walking tacos" all which were a big hit. This year I am looking to do something else that would be inexpensive and different. Typically by the end of the night, we have had about 30 people come through. Crock pots are a GREAT way to go since I have food ALL night long. Any good ideas out there? I was even considering a mashed potato bar, but not sure how that would go over.

Don't do a mashed potato bar. People want junk food to go with their drinks. We like to get spiral cut ham, good mustards and small rolls. We cook italian meatballs and sometimes throw them in a crockpot with mint jelly. Usually get a big shrimp tray from Costco.

If there's going to be alcohol, purchase an illuminated Build-A-Luge kit from www.Build-A-Luge.com! It's a DIY reusable, full scale ice luge. I got one for my Halloween party (but have already used it a bunch of times since then.) DEFINITELY CHECK IT OUT! I swear-- it was the BIGGEST hit at our party! I've also taken it tailgating (now that it's football season) and to friend's parties.
You can check out the company's facebook page to see it in action:
