x = y + 30
5 years ago she was 4 times as old as her daughter was
x - 5 = 4(y - 5)
since x = y + 30, we can substitute y + 30 for x, and now we have a equation with only 1 unknown
y + 30 - 5 = 4y - 20
and now just solve for y
y + 25 = 4y - 20
25 = 3y - 20
45 = 3y
y = 15
x = 45

11 and a quartre? Take away 5 years from 30 divide by 4 to get 6.25 then add back on the 5 years
