Fellow atheists. What's your opinion of the American Families Association?
I came across this group by accident. I'm British with an American based daughter who lives in Raleigh NC. I know there are religious extremists in the UAS but I didn't realise there were bigots of that standing in the USA. They can be found at: www.afa.net

As a general rule, if there's a group in the US that uses the word "family" in their name (great example is Focus on the Family), or "values" it's probably just another right wing, ultra conservative Christian anti-choice, anti-homosexuality, anti-women lobbyist group.
So, my opinion? My opinion is that I'm not at all surprised. Hateful bigots cry the loudest when they realize their ship is sinking.
It's ironic and sad, because the people who love to throw around words like "family" and "values" and "morals" the most seem to focus on those things THE LEAST when they display their intolerance proudly for all to see like a badge of honor.
@Delusional guy 1000: AFA has been listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center as of November 2010 for the "propagation of known falsehoods" and the use of "demonizing propaganda" against LGBT people. -Wikipedia

"Why is it that many former Christians grow to be atheist after analyzing the bible?" i might could say a huge area of that's the church homes' fault, as maximum church homes in no way coach the "no longer difficulty-free" areas of the Bible, so while a guy or woman gets to a sort of areas and sees that's massively diverse from the "sugar lined God" that they are taught approximately they have an inclination to reject the Bible and Christianity through fact they think of "how can God be loving, yet do all those issues". "Or, that some people, while attempting to discover evidence and help for the claims interior the bible, grow to be atheist." i've got not heard of that earlier, although I even have heard the alternative happening... (i.e. C.S. Lewis) "does no longer it seem that analyzing the bible might deliver one closer with God?" with ideal reading it does, the challenge is that people tend to confirm what's asserted yet proceed to be unaware of the main factors interior the story that the Bible would not point out, case in point the Bible would not talk approximately how Baal (the "best" God interior the area that the Israelites had conquered) grow to be worshiped via putting a stay infant on a heated statue (in truth cooking it alive) as a sacrifice

i always view these organizations as being led by people who are in it for the money and power and they fleece the sheep by promoting fear and loathing so that they can get more donations.
they might believe what they are spewing but it's still more about the money and power than it is about the causes they promote.

Gays make up less than 1-2% of the population and you are going to reject both an entire religion and a God simply because they teach that homosexuality is a sin? Here's an idea, WHAT IF IT ACTUALLY IS A SIN? What if God knows better than you? etc...

Well, they mean good. I don't see any outright bigotry there, however. Perhaps you assume they are all bigots, or have prejudged those whom you do not know?
