ms vista to windows 7 on laptop?
My daughters laptop was seriously infected by viruses, even though she had virus software(she never updated virus protection). Anyway, after trying multiple ways to disinfect it, even tried to wipe hdd but nothing worked. So I ordered a new hdd and a update version of windows 7 (came w/vista) Now my question is this, does the vista back up that I made contain other drivers that the laptop needs to run properly, or cam I just do a fresh install with windows 7. I have seen multiple sites that say it can be done, but I don't want any vista left on it and she can do without the bloatware. And yes, I will see that she knows how to update virus protection.

First.
When you reinstalled Vista you did not do a clean install. The virus can live in the restore image or some other place on the drive. If you formatted the hard drive completely then reinstalled Vista from another media you wouldn't have had a problem. I know you already purchased another hard drive, I'm just suggesting that you keep that hard drive around or purchase an external USB case that you can put the drive in. From there format it completely and keep it around as a backup drive.
Second.
You should do a clean install. You will have a lot of junk left behind if you try to do an upgrade and it will probably leave the virus laying around. After you bootup in Windows 7 do all the updates and look on the update page for anything additional besides security updates (like driver updates). Chances are Windows 7 will find all your hardware after doing updates. If you are finished with all updates look at your Device Manager and see if Windows 7 failed at finding something. If it did then go to your manufactures website then look for Support then Drivers. The manufacture for your laptop should have drivers you can get. Try only getting the ones that Windows 7 did not find.
Lastly.
If some reason your manufacture does not support updated drivers for Windows 7 you can try the Windows Vista drivers (they will probably work). OR you can start going to the manufacture of that item in your computers website and getting a generic driver. Example: Your video card wasn't detected but you know it is made by ATI, then go to ATI's website and get a driver. Look at the stickers on the laptop to figure out what things are.

In the event you reformat you will of direction must install Vista then run the win 7 upgrade! Should you shouldn't have the disk for place of work then it is long gone, you are not able to store and reinstall it! In case you just do an upgrade to the Vista that's on it now all applications will have to nonetheless be there! I'm hoping you have got proper improve! Excellent success!

If you want your documents back THEM up but not your Vista OS. Windows 7 upgrade will install the necessary components that will run your laptop how it should. But obviously you lose all data upgrading the OS, so like I said just back up the documents but not the software as it may be infected too.

Windows 7 should find all the drivers you need. If it doesn't, visit the manufacturers' web site and download any missing drivers for her model.

Windows 7 can automatically find most of your drivers. The drivers it cannot find can be found on your computer's manufacture website.
