Why doesn't my printer work?

I have a HP Deskjet 1055 printer that says it is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows 7. My computer I recently bought is a Windows 8 computer. When I tried to install the CD driver it gave me an error that said the software is not compatible. That is understandable since the CD only goes up to Windows 7. I went on the HP site and it has a driver for Windows 8 32-bit and 64-bit but when I try to download the driver for it, it says it completed the installation but it won't print. So, I am at a loss as to what to do. It doesn't even let me select any of the components because it says they are all installed but the printer won't print and it did before. Thanks for the help.

i had the exact same problem, but for it to work, the cd's installation method will need to be installed, not from online, or else it will not work, you will have to buy a new printer
