Is belief/disbelief a limiting factor?
Can we see, or even imagine, beyond our beliefs/disbeliefs?
Or is belief, and disbelief, a stop sign for the mind? Preventing us from acknowledging the existence of anything that may contradict it.
Aren't beliefs, and their inseparable twins disbelief, just opinions?

By its self, belief/disbelief is stage two of cognitive development. Failure to go beyond that means no stage 3 cognitive, application of arithmetic for quantification for weight, space and time (yes, I know, retard is bad word) and stage four, application of abstract concepts to theoretical problems.
'Stages of Cognitive Development. Piaget identified four stages in cognitive development:
Sensorimotor stage (Infancy). In this period (which has 6 stages), intelligence is demonstrated through motor activity without the use of symbols. Knowledge of the world is limited (but developing) because its based on physical interactions / experiences. Children acquire object permanence at about 7 months of age (memory). Physical development (mobility) allows the child to begin developing new intellectual abilities. Some symbollic (language) abilities are developed at the end of this stage.
Pre-operational stage (Toddler and Early Childhood). In this period (which has two substages), intelligence is demonstrated through the use of symbols, language use matures, and memory and imagination are developed, but thinking is done in a nonlogical, nonreversable manner. Egocentric thinking predominates
Concrete operational stage (Elementary and early adolescence). In this stage (characterized by 7 types of conservation: number, length, liquid, mass, weight, area, volume), intelligence is demonstarted through logical and systematic manipulation of symbols related to concrete objects. Operational thinking develops (mental actions that are reversible). Egocentric thought diminishes.
Formal operational stage (Adolescence and adulthood). In this stage, intelligence is demonstrated through the logical use of symbols related to abstract concepts. Early in the period there is a return to egocentric thought. Only 35% of high school graduates in industrialized countries obtain formal operations; many people do not think formally during adulthood.'

To a certain extent, belief really is like a stop sign for the mind. But it's a stop sign where there is never going to be any cross traffic. Some people obediently stop, some slow down before continuing, and others just blow right through. Belief implies lack of evidence. Once there is evidence, there is no longer a need for belief. Some of us take this a step further and construct a whole framework based on this. But it's not that the people who do this don't acknowledge the existence of anything that might contradict it, they do acknowledge them. It's just that they fit these contradictory things into their framework, often contorting their system quite a bit, something they can't see.

Belief (or disbelief) can both be positive and negative.... as a positive it provides forward momentum by not allowing doubt or fear to block the way..... as a negative it blocks our openness and quest by lulling us into an overconfidence (faith).... so long as we realize in the depth of our mind that every truth we think we know is just a belief for the time being based on facts and experience available to us thus far, we can use belief or disbelief positively and be ready to examine and reckon every fresh evidence and experience without bias or a fixed mind.

Disbelief does limit the human life just to the physical existence during this worldly life hence, the human life is under the absolute command of the physical death, which is beyond the limits of human resources and tolerance. Therefore, disbelief in the creator of the universe is intolerable and inhuman concept and practice.

no.
belief is establishing factor. it anchors a mind to a concept or object.
disbelief and belief are the same thing - just opposition - like coming or going, you're still travelling.
you can say a belief limits but not quite true. you sensor or edit a work that you discriminate between what you want to keep and don't want to keep. you don't want to keep what doesn't make you good to your work. so belief is establishing factor.

Belief with wisdom, guidance and above all, prayer to the Father, through Jesus Christ, the Son, is not limiting (notice I said with wisdom, guidance and prayer and not just some random "Holier than thou" attitude)....but disbelief limits a person of their full potential with God and a relationship with Him. It is an honor to love the Lord.

Yes. It might also facilitate forward movement. I believe that I can put my hand through the wall without hurting either my hand or the wall. I haven't figured out yet how to achieve this. My belief in the pain story is stronger than my belief in quantum theory.

Once the human mind has been brainwashed by religion it is no longer able to see anything beyond that.

Only if you let it.
That saying: think outside the box started for a reason...people get comfy & lazy in their thinking.
It does not have to be a limiting factor.
