Senior Survey, Ladies would you wear "Army Boots"?
Silly question but I am in the mood for some advice and some funny answers.
This makes me think of the childhood insult of,"Does your mother wear Army Boots"?
We are now living in snowy place and I really get super cold feet when we are out walking in the cold weather .
Sometimes we are out for several hours and I can't stand to suffer frozen feet.
I have shipped many pairs of warm boots to our new location but having lived in warmer climates, my many pairs of boots fit with only thin socks being worn.
My husband bought himself a couple of pairs of Army Boots and one pair is too small for him.
They are really nice, made in the USA in Mass. and appear to be high quality officer dress boots, high top, lace ups with enough room inside to wear a couple pairs of wool socks.
The thing is, I feel like "Olive Oil "wearing them, all long legs with huge boots on.
Would you senior ladies wear a practical pair of boots to keep warm or would you rather die then be seen wearing Army Boots?
I could easily just buy a pair of soft winter boots but we seriously think this will be our last winter spent in a cold climate and after shipping so many items half way across the world, hate to sell out money on a non fashion item that will not be used for long.
Mind you we live in a city not the countryside.
So, would you wear big boots and be practical and warm or would you rather freeze or insist on getting new winter boots?
Thanks everyone.
Stella, you are correct, it is Olive Oyl, I might just look into those thermal socks for a chance to wear my more fashionable boots for going out to the mall or just food shopping.
I was thinking more of the Army boots for general long walks and outings to the park to mess around in the snow.
I should take a new picture of myself this winter and post it here, I wear one of those big fat Russian style fur hats, a long black wool coat and if I top it all of with those Army Boots, I may just win a fashion award!
Husband has finally decided he hates cold weather, so hopefully next year we will seek a warmer place for the winter months.

Oh My! This made me laugh!
I've got very hard-to-fit feet and must search for weeks to find shoes, boots are impossible. Usually I end up wearing men's shoes, as they are made wide enough to be comfortable.
About 10 years ago I found a pair of ladies boots that fit AND they were comfortable. The only trouble with them, they were UGLY black and looked like military dress boots...YUCK.
You know I bought them, they were on the SALE rack!
Funny thing is, I really liked having boots that fit, were warm and comfortable. Every time I put them on, I would tease my boys (high school age at the time) "Yo Mama wears combat boots!"
I took very good care of them, because I knew it would be a miracle to find another pair of comfortable boots... After I'd had them about two years, they suddenly disappeared!
I searched everywhere, grilled the boys thinking they had hidden them...the boots were GONE!
The next Christmas my brother came from N.C. for the Holidays. As soon as he got in the door and began to take off "his" boots, I recognized my "nice" boots, all battered and beaten and scuffed! I couldn't believe it, he'd stolen my boots!
He actually thought they were his old military boots, and took them home after his last visit!

The boots your describe make sense for certain temperatures, and weather conditions. I have a pair of hiking boots which I wear when I have to walk any distance in cold weather, when there is packed snow, or icy sidewalks. They keep me warm. They are comfortable, and they grip the sidewalk or path.
I also have lighter weight, fashionable boots which I wear to work, when I drive, and simply have to walk a few steps to and from my car.
I would argue that you should choose according to the conditions and worry a little less about the fashion.
If the army boots were all I had, I would wear them and be grateful for their warmth and durability!

No I wouldn't. When I've lived in cold climates I've always worn thin silk thermal under-socks, normal socks and then some nice fashionable boots or shoes. I really don't like the "Olive Oyl" look and its never been necessary to wear boots like that.

I had to laugh at Judy's answer. Funny!
I would wear army boots if they were comfortable. Hey, I wear socks with my flip flops. I'm not fashionable, but comfortable. I don't like my feet cold either. Oh, I can dress up, but prefer not to. I bought a pair of boots last near that looked like army boots and got a few laughs from people in my family. Do I care? No!! lol.

I should imagine they would be just as great for walking in snow as my hiking boots.
I wear my hiking boots with two pairs of socks if I have to go out in snow and ice. They are sturdy and have a good tread. It doesn't matter what others think I look like, I'd rather be safe, warm and sensible. Oh yes, I also have a wax jacket and woolly hat - and thermal undies - very cosy!

You make me laugh. If this is your last real winter then go ahead and wear them. Unless you are needing to impress someone or wear an evening gown,LOL.
Wear a long coat ...that may help.
How fashionable can you be sloshing through the snow drifts? Scuff your toes along and build up some snow to cover them, that may help.
Sorry, I'm still laughing.

Nope. They are too heavy unless the materials they are made of have changed.
But, when I lived in Ohio, I had a pair of fuzzy lined leather boots. I wore them with two pairs of knee socks. My boots were practical not cute.

The phrase "your mother wears Army boots" goes back to World War II and is considered a compliment to the many "Rosie the Riveters" -- that is to say WOMEN who built of all things...the B17 bomber for air raids on Germany !

Heck -- nothing will get a guy going, like a girl in Army boots. Wear them if they keep your feet warm -- I hate cold feet myself.

Oh you bet! Wear what works! I hate cold feet. I wish you could try Ugg's. http://www.uggaustralia.com/classic-boots/women-bo...
I wear them in northern Minnesota, and I wear them without socks. I was downtown with a friend last year, it was one of our rare really cold days. Last winter was pretty mild. 20 below. Her feet got so cold. When we got back to her house I showed her my boots. They were six years old and had a couple slits in them. But still my feet without socks, were much warmer then hers.
