  • Seniors,Would go go back to work to pay for a vacation of a lifetime?

Would you be willing and or able to go back to work if you had a goal to travel with the extra money?

Have you ever "come out" of retirement and if so, how hard was it to join the work force again?

  • For those of us not old enough yet for medicare?

I Fellow posters under the age of 65 without health care, I thought this might be of interest to us.

How do you think a program that involves tipping doctors as you have office visits would work out in the US?

I am a US citizen, born and raised that now lives in the EU.

I pay around $30. a month to be in the national Health Care over here in Hungary.

This should cover most all office visits, lab tests,CT, MRI's and any thing the doctor orders for your care.

I am not sure if other doctors in other EU countries expect tips for services but here in HU it is an old custom that probably should be done away with.

For an office visit for the 2 of us just a general wellness visit or to get a referral to a specialist we usually tip around $25. to $30. for the visit, for a specialist we give $50. and for our surgeries, hour long procedures we tip around $200. plus another $100. between nurses and others.

All this tipping however does tend to keep us from going as often as we may want to, everyone has their hands out so it adds up fast.

Would you rather pay only $30. a month for the security of knowing you have health coverage but know you must tip if you want real care and referals if needed or pay up front every month hundreds of dollars for coverage that you may not be using every month?

I know in some other EU countries they may not have to tip but I suspect they pay more monthly for coverage.

Any info from others in the EU about health care in their country would be interesting to know.

Fellow Americans without coverage would you be will to tip doctors under the table for care?

We have read the gov. here in HU is trying to put a stop to the tipping practice but they can not be in the office with every patient to monitor what is going on.

  • Seniors, What is your opinion of dental implants?

I need to replace a tooth that was pulled a couple months back.

I have a choice of either getting a bridge made up which means I would have to get 2 crowns on the supporting teeth on either side of the missing tooth or I could opt. for a dental implant.

I have read that sometimes the implants are a problem, lots of infections possible and they may take a long time to heal.

I am lucky that I am in a place where a crown is only about $90. a tooth so it would be around $300. or so for a bridge and the implants can be done for slightly more, less then $400. for one tooth.

It is a side tooth so it really doesn't show much.

Have any of you experienced an implant?

Any tips about which method is better and more comfortable?

  • What is the most shocking thing you have seen in public lately?

I saw a dead body in the road today.

I am still shocked and shaking over what I saw.

Was walking to the grocery shop this afternoon here in Budapest and noticed the traffic going at a crawl. Police car were blocking the bus lane and a cameraman was walking around taking photos. The body was lying in the road in the bus lane covered in black garbage bags, a white bag was put over the head.

A pile of blood was nearby.

I at first thought that a film was being shot but soon knew it was too real to be a movie.

What shocked my the most was people were eating in a sidewalk café only 10-15 ft. away, people were just walking past going about their business like it was an everyday thing to see a dead body in the road in the city.

On my way back home I noticed a women on the sidewalk praying so I stood near here, bowed my head and gave a moment of silence.

What would you do if you happened to see such a thing?

  • Senior Rockers, Have you experienced any mishapes at a live Rock concert?

Have you ever been to a concert and things got too out of hand?

Was the crowd too wild and rowdy or did the concert end because of some sort of malfunction?

I was at a T-Rex concert at the Hollywood Palladium at age 15.

friends and I got up as close to the stage as we could, Mark Bolan was half way thru "Bang a Gong" when I passed out cold due to the heat and lack of fresh air because so many people were pushing and shoving to get closer to the stage.

A guy caught me and lifted me into the air, the crowd passed me over head a few rows and I was put down at the front of the stage where I recovered by looking straight up at the band playing in full force.

I felt so dumb as I staggered off to the side of the stage, lost my great viewing spot too.

At a Def Leppard concert in NM we had to give up our good seats because of a fight between a couple right behind us.

The women was a tiny native American women of 90 lbs. who apparently punched her BF a huge 200 lbs. native so hard that he flew over the back of my husbands seat and landed in his lap.

Hubby had quick reflexes, put his hands up in the air to indicate his was no threat and we jumped out of our seats and went to the "cheap seats".

At a Stones concert in the 80's in Calif. just as we pulled into the parking lot my hubby remembered he forgot his binoculers and he turned the car home to pick them up. I was furious, missed out on Prince and half of Gun N Roses the opening acts.

Went to a rock jam with a full day of music in Calif. I was 7 months pregnant, it was super hot out but I sat there all day long waiting to see the finishing act of Rod Stewart.

Huge ego trip on his part. Played only half of one song and walked off the stage because he didn't like the sound system. I never bought another of his records again, I was so mad.

I think twice now before going to any live events, never work out right for me.

Do you have any stories to share about being let down at a concert or even a good story about getting more then you bargained for?

  • Seniors in the UK, Were any of your delivered at home by a Midwife?

I just finished watching the second season of the BBC show," Call the Midwife"

Made me think about how it must of been during the baby boom years when many people were still delivered at home by midwifes.

Did you of you seniors make your big debut with the help of a midwife with a home delivery?

I am not sure if these sort of home delivery was popular in the US during the 1950's.

  • Senior Rockers, What album from your youth changed the way you listen to music?

For me it was the album LED ZEPPELIN.

I tossed out my Monkee albums as soon as I heard Zeppelin.

Just put it on my tape player and listened to it again, classic still...

  • Seniors, Do you know anyone who just won't let go of their past, blame parents for everything?

Is there a friend or family member who is now a senior citizen but still holds grudges from their childhood upbringing?

How do you deal with a person who blames their parents for not promoting their hidden talents from childhood and now in their twilight years till thinks the world has done them wrong?

My older sister tends to do this all the time, turns any life situation , anything that may happen to anyone, even a stranger into a complaint about how our mother didn't promote her talents, encourage her to take more school classes etc.

I find this very boring as anyone with true talent would discover it with or without their parents blessing if they really did have hidden talents.

How do you defend your parents who are long gone and still support a resentful sibling?

I guess some people would rather blame others then themselves.

  • Seniors, What is an unusual site from your home window?

I have a 1980 something ( 85 to 88 year) Buick Regal parked right outside our flat. It is black with silver trim and huge chrome wheels.

Not too unusual of a site in the US even though gas is priced high and these cars are gas guzzlers.

I am looking out my window here in Old World Budapest, Hungary.

This car is so out of place parked on the cobble stone St. and with gas( petrol) being at $8. US here these owners must also own a gas station.

I was enjoying looking at it, feeling a bit homesick for the US when I noticed something even more worrying then high gas prices.

Everyone walking past the car is turning their necks to have a peek at it. One guy I noticed actually at first looked like he was going to enter the car,I was sort of hoping to see who would get into that car.

The young dark haired man was rubbing his finger around the drivers side window, putting his eyes up to the glass to look inside the car, then went to the passenger side and looked like he was reaching for car keys from his fanny pack. He only pulled out a cell phone, stood next to the car talking to someone for a few mins. played around the car a bit longer then slowly crossed the St. and walked away.

I am not going to babysit this car all day long but as soon as the real owners show up I may let them know their car was getting a bit too much attention.

looked to me like car thieves were thinking of removing the car.

I have seen many older and some new US cars here in the past. A few weeks ago 2 young guys were driving down my St. in an old 70's Cadillac. I couldn't help myself, I jumped the curb and stick my thumb out like I wanted a ride. They were cool, they slowed down and waved to me.

Is there anything totally out of place in front of your window?

  • Seniors who are married, do you go everywhere together?

How many seniors opt. to staying home or doing something different then their spouse does for entertainment.

Today my husband dressed like his old Hippie self, old clothing, a small day pack with lunch inside and headed out for a 24 hour Harley Davidson music event.

I encouraged him to go alone as a full day of loud music and a night sleeping outside on the ground until the morning trains start back up wasn't very appealling

    to me.

He just about ran out the door after I said I wouldn't mind being alone for a day.

I am on crutches at the moment, couldn't see myself hobbling around a ton of motorbikes and young bikini clad people, let alone trying to rest on the hard ground overnight.

So must you do everything together or do you also opt. out of events that only one of you would enjoy?
