    3x+8+x=28 subtract 8 like you said getting

    3x + x = 20 now combine the x's getting

    4x = 20 now divide both sides by 4 getting

    x = 5 :)

    AD: You subtract 8 to get all the variables on one side and the numbers on the other.

    x=x therefore the xs are the same. So:

    3x+x=4x

    now the equation is: 4x+8=28

    you subtract 8 from 28 and you get 20.

    now the equation is 4x=20

    you divide 4x by 4 and 20 by 4 and u get x=5.

    x=5

    we subtract 8 because it is the one that is positive and it is the one that u r adding to. the inverse operation of addition is subtraction therefore u r subtracting 8.

    the reason why 3x and the other x is 4x is because the xs have the same value and there are 4 xs. 3x (there are 3 xs) and then x by itself is now 4x. That is how you change that equation

    4x+8=28

    and then you subtract 8 and divided 4x=20 by 4

    4x divided by 4 is 1x ( its x anyways) and 20 divided by 4 is 5.

    the reason why you cant subtract 8 from 3x is because that is multiplication and the rule is to subtract it from the answer which is 28.

    The answer is x=5

    3x + 8 + x = 28

    4x+8= 28

    now you're changing sides... you move 8 to the other side

    4x = 28 - 8

    4x =20\: 4

    x = 5
