Angels seem to have the unique ability to appear as humans. They are messengers from God, and that is the roll that these played in Mamre. If they appear as humans, then eating would be part of the whole picture. Inif you are using a KJV Bible, pay attention to the wording:
"Lord" may be a man's title.
"LORD" is clearly God.
Abraham was offering hospitality to strangers....
Hebrews 13:2 "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."
