buell power plant to harley frame?

I am wanting to build a bike, I want to use a buell engine for the power plant, but I am curious. I have heard that when the buell was first created a guy took a sportster power plant and put it on a sportbike frame. and then was one upped by a guy taking a buell powerpant and putting it on a Harley frame im not sure if it was a sporty frame or not. any way does anyone know a sportbike power plant that will fit on a sporty frame with a little fab work? im trying to work smart and not hard here haha

    Umm, do you mean a late model Buell with the Rotax engine?

    If not, you would be putting a Sportster engine in a Sportster frame. Seems a bit pointless to me. You could just buy a Sporty to start with.

    You are going about this backwards! The Buell engine is NOT all that powerful, it is more powerful than regular HD motors, but that is not saying much since Hd motors are weak, real weak! Plus the Buell frames were lighter and multifunctional, meaning the swingarms held the oil and the main frame held the fuel. You would be adding both to a worthless heavy HD frame.

    Forget the whole project, you'd be disappointed with the results if you even got the thing completed, a waste of time and money.

    I have Buell XB12 Lightning with the full Buell Race Kit, it is weak compared to most other sport bikes, not enough power, and that is the Best an HD motor can get. That motor ruins what would had been agreat bike. Get the Buell with the Rotax motor, you'll be happy you did and won';t have to mess with a worthless HD frame or motor.

    Well, the Buell engine, just about takes the harley engine to where it should have been by the late seventies.

    If you want to stick with the harley layout, why not put in a tuned S&S engine??

    Or just buy a V-Rod - the 2000 engine that brought HD up to 90's levels of performance :) :) haha

    End of the day the words HD and performance just dont really go together, put a big engine in and then you would be looking at upgrading the brakes, then the suspension, then . . . binning the lot and buying a KTM 950 SM and having some real fun ;)

    No. Because it's not possible.

    Oh sure, it can be done, but it takes a LOT of modification to the frame to make it work. If you can't (or won't) do that, then your project is doomed from the start.

    There was a Sportster with a Kawasaki GPz-750 engine, featured in BSH (or a similar magazine), several years ago. But the geezer who built it had to make some serious mods to the frame, to get the engine to fit.

    The only thing that sucked about a Buell was the antique harley engine. Why do you want to put an antique engine back on an antique frame? Why not just go buy a good motorcycle with modern day design?

    Comparing the V-Rod to every other bike in HD's lineup will not be sensible. It's the MoCo's bastard baby, however they promote 'em like crazy. I've got a race spec air-cooled 113 Softail, as good as an '08 night time Rod targeted. Yeah, the Softail is a extra comfy journey, and with my build- a bit of a sleeper. However the night time Rod is just a shocker all of the manner around. And they both haul ***. Both are set up for straight line acceleration. Both do ok on the highway. If I desired a canyon-carver, that is what i'd purchase. Cruisers don't seem to be made for that. I've bloodied my knuckles, and pulled hair out constructing, modifying, and working on both bikes. I am really doing study right now, considering that opting for up a Victory Hammer. Hater's gonna hate. However i love both of my bikes, and i would gain knowledge of to love the Victory as good. For those who are not able to flip a wrench, it would not really topic what manufacturer bike you experience.... For those who pay the dealership to change oil, check fluid levels, and adjust the handlebars, you haven't any trade pretending to be a biker. You're only a poser.

    You want to put a superbike type engine in a sportster frame. Yeah, that will work.

    why not put a modern inline four in a hardtail frame? make the fastest dam chopper in town!
