Information on the French name Lynee'?
My middle name is Lynee' (pronounced "lin-ay"). I was told it was French for "Linda". I tried looking it up but my searches only come up with variations of the name Lynne/Lynn. I was born in the United States in 1990, I think my parents said they got it from a baby book. I can't find any information on this name, it's as if it's unheard of. Does anyone know if it's indeed French and what American name it translates to? Any info on the meaning? Please cite your answer, as I won't consider it legitimate information without being able to see proof somewhere.

Good question. I can ask my husband when he gets home. His daughter is jaydn lenae pronounced the same as yours and presumably french. My grandmother is french...was french if I cant get answers I will try to find it

Actually ît is not French. It happens to have its origins in Sweden. This name is a variant of Linnèa, a flower named after a Swedish botanist Karl Von Linné. The Linnaean system of classifying plants and animals and the twinflower (linnaea) was named after him. This flower Linnaea Borealis is Sweden's national flower today.
Lyneé was probably an effort to feminize the Swedish family name, Linné. You were probably born during a time when 'unisex' names were not the trend, and parents made efforts to ensure that their daughter woud not have a name identified as a masculine moniker.
Lyneé is a lovely feminine name. I can see how your parents thought it was French. The Swede names, Linné - Lyneé are not so different in form as the French names Rene- Reneé. Both feminine versions end with an extra é, and the second syllable is pronounced as 'nay'
Lyneè is pronounced differently from Linnéa which may be the reason it is no longer found in the baby name websites. Linnéa is the name you'd find in baby name websites.
