When you ask a question on here...?

Whenever possible I prefer to see answers that give plenty of extra information. It's extremely important that the question is answered directly and clearly right away, but there is no reason not to go ahead and add additional information that may be relevant.

While often the original person asking the question may not have needed the extra information, it isn't going to prevent him from getting his answer if it was clearly given at the beginning of the post. While you are answering one persons question, many more people are going to see it over the next days, weeks, and months that are looking for similar questions and similar answers. I can't tell you how many times I've been redirected to answers.yahoo.com when doing a search engine search for various topics. While the original asker may just want to know what color the sky is and move on, I may need to know why the sky is blue and so it's wonderful if that information was also included in the answer.

It depends on the question. Some just need direct answers and some are asking for advice.

if it answers my question, i don't mind.

if im asking about internet security, i like it when advice is given.

if im asking about a favourite film, song, group etc, a simple answer will do.

I like people that give me the answer but also gives me tips/advice.

It depends what I ask.
