What is the difference between District of Alaska and Territory of Alaska?

At first it was Department of Alaska then, District of Alaska and then, Territory of Alaska then, A state in 1959. What's the difference between all these title? Please clearly explain it.

    District of Alaska is its federal jurisdiction (where all laws apply). Territory of Alaska is a description of the map of Alaska prior to 1959 when she became a state.
