My mechanic asks for$ 120-150 for spark plug and wire replacement of my rav4. Is it fair or is it too expensive?

Do not be that person. Bringing parts after a tech has diagnosed the problem. If you want to do things yourself, do it yourself. If you are relying on the expertise of others, then pay them for the services rendered. If you provide your parts and theyre wrong, its a headache for both you and a shop that is trying to stay productive and does not have time to wait for you. If you end up supplying parts, then most shops will definitely not provide a warranty of the repair. So if you have a problem later, you pay twice for labor to do it again. This is a fully acceptable price to pay and is fair considering about an hour labor, 4 plugs at around 5-6 a plug at most, and 40-60 for wires. A shop has to stay in business and cannot sell parts at an out the door price you can because there would be no way a shop can stay afloat. Good luck!

Correct me if i am fallacious, however isn't a TDI the diesel version? Don't know VW's all that good, however whether it is diesel cars do not have distributors, spark plugs, or wires. They have GLOW plugs, but that's something wholly exceptional... Either means, that appears slightly excessive depending on where the materials come from. If it's actual VW stuff then it can be no longer too bad, is it a dealer doing the work? And what makes you think it needs a new distributor?

The best thing to do is buy the parts you need yourself then get the mechanic to do the work. You will find this much cheaper as in most cases you can pay 35% to 55% more getting them through your mechanic. Any auto shop will help you getting the right parts for your Rav and your wallet will be happier for it to.

If that is for parts and labor with a warranty, that is no a bad price. Platinum plugs would make that an even better deal.
